0181 Afghan Techniques

Basic information for designing your own afghans.  Many techniques that may be included in your designs as well as suggestions for finishing, joining and linings.

Description

Afghans can be so much fun to design and knit. This is one of those projects that don’t require you to match a stitch and row gauge. It’s a good way to work on new techniques, as you are not involved with shaping and other details.

There are a few of the things I take into consideration before starting an afghan; who is going to use it, what yarns and what techniques you wish to use. Also included – different techniques for lining, joining and finishing. The techniques in most cases, apply to afghans knit on the Standard Machine, Mid-gauge or the Bulky Machines. These techniques will give you a good foundation to work with. We are always trying to come up with different techniques to add variety and interest to the knitting.

Remember, most of the techniques for afghans can be used in many of the garments you will knit. This isn’t rocket science, so have some fun with your designs!

Includes information on Cast-ons, Techniques, Joining, Garter Carriage, Finishing, and Blocking.
